(NEWS RELEASE) – As you may or may not know in December, Meadowlark Ridge Elementary School, the city of Salina, the teaching community and the Pilgrim family lost a very important person. Ruby Pilgrim passed away on December 23rd, 2012 after a courageous battle with lymphoma. Ruby will be sorely missed by many.
Ruby taught at Meadowlark Ridge for 16 years and influenced many students, teachers, and staff. As a 2nd grade teacher she taught students to become better readers. She inspired the love of reading in so many, not only by her classroom instruction and activities, but also with her own love of reading and reading aloud to them. We will miss her immensely.
We are asking for your help. Meadowlark Ridge PTO and Staff are raising funds to purchase the statue Cabin Fever. The statue is part of Salina’s Sculpture Tour in downtown Salina and is located at the northeast corner of Iron and Santa Fe. Ruby exemplified all that is good about Salina and teachers in the USD 305 District. We would like the statue placed at Meadowlark Ridge, to celebrate Ruby, and all teachers and students in Salina.
The artist, Gregory Johnson, has generously brought down the price of this precious statue but his art is still very valuable and our gratitude to Ruby and all Salina teachers is invaluable. Please consider a donation to the Celebration Statue Fund. You can donate directly at Sunflower Bank by either dropping off a check made to: Celebration Statue Fund at Meadowlark Ridge Elementary School, at any area Sunflower Bank location or by mailing it to:
