Game #5 Preview: Bombers @ Haymakers

DSC_0110One would think that a team four games into their inaugural season would have most of the “firsts” out of the way. One major first still sits in front of the Salina Bombers, a road game. The Bombers have had four games in their home at the Bicentennial Center but tonight will hit the road to Nebraska to play the Haymakers.

Those first four games for Salina showed some good, some bad, and some ugly. Most importantly, they show a lot of promise. The Bombers are 2-2 as they hit the road tonight with the two losses coming to the CPIFL’s top teams in Wichita and Sioux City.

Tonight the Bombers will visit a Lincoln team that is also growing and developing. The Haymakers have competed, but have just one win to show for their efforts so far. Lincoln is currently ranked 4th in the CPIFL in total offense, averaging 209.5 yards per game. Most of the production has been on the ground as the Haymakers are ranked 1st in yards per rush but only rank 9th in passing yards per game. Lincoln has recently made a change at quarterback to help cure the passing woes. AJ Toscano started the season behind center but in the last two games, Blake Bolles has seen more time. Expect to see Bolles start and play most of the game tonight.

Salina is coming off of a heartbreaking loss to the Sioux City Bandits last Saturday, 43-46. Salina missed a last second field goal in an attempt to put the game into overtime. Despite that loss, Salina remains in the hunt for a play-off spot. The Bombers have added yet another Big XII talent to their roster with the arrival of Jake Lattimer, a former Iowa State Cyclone and All Big XII performer on defense. Lattimer will help the Bomber defensive line fill the gap left by the departure of nose guard David Williams. Williams left the team to be with his family in California.

Kick-off is scheduled for 7:05 pm tonight in Lincoln at the Pershing Center. Salina Bomber Pregame begins at 6:30 pm on Salina Post as well as 99KG Country.
