A 21-year-old Salina woman treated in the emergency room Wednesday after being accidentally shot in the foot, while learning to use a handgun safely.
According to Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski, Courtney Green was with 24-year-old Gary Fairbanks in the 5000-block of W. McReynolds Road on an old railroad right of way Wednesday morning.
Fairbanks was showing Green how to use a 9-mm handgun.
He fired the gun and there was some type of ricochet , that struck Fairbanks, causing him to drop the gun, it discharged and a round hit Green in the left foot, and the slug came out of her heel.
They went to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment and that is when the Sheriffs Office was notified.
The shooting has been ruled accidental.
