Lawrence, KS. – The CPIFL featured just three games in Week 13, but the league was not short on outstanding individual performances. Three players are recognized as CPIFL Players of the Week.
Offensive Player of the Week: Shane Scott, Lincoln Haymakers
Scott recorded the fifth most receiving yards in one week with 112 in Lincoln’s loss to Omaha. Scott also led the league in Week 13 with eight receptions. Scott’s 29-yard touchdown in the second quarter put the Haymakers up 24-6, but were the last Haymaker points of the night as Lincoln fell by a score of 34-24. Lincoln wraps up their season in Topeka vs. the Kansas Koyotes on Saturday.
Salina was in a battle with Mid-Missouri in Week 13 and did not take their first lead of the game until late in the third quarter. Following a Salina TD which gave the Bombers a 26-23 lead, Isiah Barfield intercepted a pass and returned it 41 yards to set up another Bombers touchdown and shift momentum in the game for good. Barfield also led the team in tackles with six. Salina finishes the regular season by visiting Oklahoma on Saturday. The Bombers have qualified for the playoffs in their first year of existence and will begin their playoff run on June 15.
In uncharacteristic fashion, it took Salina 29 minutes to score their first touchdown in Week 13. On the scoring play, McKinney blocked a Mid-Missouri field goal and Adrian Thomas returned the field goal for the TD. The play came at a perfect time as the Salina offense was struggling. McKinney made his presence felt again early in the fourth quarter with another blocked field goal which was returned by Ira Autrey for a touchdown. The two blocked kicks in a game are a league record.
The final week of the CPIFL regular season features a full week of games including Kansas City visiting Omaha on Friday night followed on Saturday by Lincoln at Kansas, Sioux City hosting Bloomington, Mid-Missouri travelling to Wichita and Salina visiting Oklahoma. You can hear the Bombers game on 99KG and on Salina Post.
