LINSDBORG, KAN. —Jared Chase, assistant professor of music at Bethany College, has been invited to present at the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) National Conference in March 2011.
At the CBDNA national conference, Chase will present his paper, “Le Bal de Béatrice d’Este by Reynaldo Hahn: A Critical Edition,” at the University of Washington in Seattle on March 23. Chase was one of only 10 selected to present.

“This is one of the largest and most visible conferences for college band directors. It is a huge honor to be invited and to represent Bethany College,” said Chase. “I have been studying and creating this project for more than two years. I am excited to now be able to share it with my colleagues in wind conducting.”

The paper is a study of the Venezuelan/French composer Reynaldo Hahn and his only work for chamber wind ensemble, Le Bal de Béatrice d’Este. Chase’s research focused on Hahn’s life, the commissioning of the piece and its premiere as well as a new edition of the work, which was painstakingly edited. Chase corrected more than 700 mistakes found in the original publication and created a new score with parts to be played by chamber wind ensembles. His new edition was performed for the first time in August 2010 in Cincinnati and will be presented at the CBDNA national conference.

New to Bethany this fall, Chase teaches instrumental music classes and directs the symphonic band, jazz ensemble and Blue Dozen pep band. He also directs the brass ensemble and teaches applied trumpet and conducting.

Chase is currently completing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where he also received the Master of Music degree in trumpet performance. He received his Bachelor of Music Education and Music Performance degree from the University of Colorado.
