A Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper was shot during a traffic stop in Hays. He’s currently listed in stable condition. The suspect was arrested.

According to Ellis County Attorney Tom Drees, around 11:30pm Saturday Night, the Trooper was conducting a routine traffic stop on the Southeast edge of Hays, when the suspect allegedly shot the Trooper.

45-year-old Ruben Herrera Escobedo was arrested and is being held for probable cause, charged with Aggravated Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer.

Escobedo is in the Ellis County Jail without bond.
