Winter weather causes USD 305 to extend school year by one day

Due to school days cancelled because of extreme weather conditions, USD 305 must
begin making up lost instructional time.

All students must attend school for one additional day.  The revised, last school day for
Kindergarten through grade 11 is Friday, May 20, 2011 and the last day for grade 12 is
May 13.  As of March 1, school days for grades 9-12 will begin at 7:35 a.m. (No more
Tuesday/Thursday 8:00 a.m. start times.)

Revised Last Day of School
– High school students, grades 9-11, Friday, May 20
– High school seniors, grade 12, Friday, May 13

– Middle school students, grades 6-8, Friday, May 20

– Elementary school students, grades K-5, Friday, May 20

Regardless that school was cancelled because of extreme weather conditions, the
Kansas State Department requires a minimum of 1,116 hours of instruction for grades
1-11, and 1,086 hours of instruction for grade 12.

Three snow days, built into the calendar in case of cancellations, were used up as of
February 1.  Beginning with the February 2 school cancellation and including every day
cancelled after, the hours must be recaptured.  The end of the school year has to be
extended by one day for students and for staff to recapture instructional time.

If any cancellations occur after February 9, updated schedule information will be
forthcoming.
