Fidel Castro’s daughter speaking at Fort Hays State

HAYS, Kan. (AP) – The self-described exiled daughter of former Cuban president Fidel Castro will speak next week at Fort Hays State University, making a visit that was scrubbed in November because of a missed flight.

Alina Hernandez is scheduled to speak Tuesday night in Sheridan Hall on the northwestern Kansas campus. The event is free and open to the public. It’s sponsored by the university’s Office of Diversity Affairs, University Activities Board and the Black Student Union.

Hernandez was a young child when her father led the overthrow of Cuba’s Batista government in 1959. But she left Cuba in 1993 for the United States and has been a prominent critic of her father and the Communist regime he established.
