Judge summons Kansas woman for abortion hearing

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) – A judge has summoned a Kansas anti-abortion activist to a hearing next week on the federal government’s bid for an order keeping her away from a Wichita doctor.

The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division filed a civil complaint last week accusing Valley Center resident Angel Dillard of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act.

The lawsuit contends she mailed a threatening letter to Dr. Mila Means after learning the physician was training to offer abortion services at her Wichita practice.

U.S. District Judge J. Thomas Marten on Monday scheduled a hearing April 19 on the government’s request for a preliminary injunction ordering Dillard to stay away from the doctor.

Abortions have not been performed in Wichita since Dr. George Tiller was shot and killed in May 2009.
