Severe thunderstorms producing wind hail and funnels and tornadoes moved across central Kansas Thursday afternoon. The first warnings went up in Rice and Ellsworth counties a little after 3:30 pm and as the storms moved east and northeast reports of severe weather came in from Lincoln, Ottawa, Saline, Cloud, Clay, and Dickinson Counties.
Funnel clouds were spotted in southeastern Saline County a little after 5 pm and there was a citizens report of a brief tornado touchdown on the Saline/Ottawa County line about 5:25pm. Several reports of funnels were also reported north of Abilene near Talmage.
The only reports of damage came from strong winds blew the roof off a home two miles south of Tescott on Brookville Road about 5pm. A shed that was not tied down was blown down and a motorcycle was moved 30 yards from the house.
While Central Kansas was dealing with spring severe weather, northwest Kansas was reporting snow, where up to 4 inches of snow was on the ground at St. Francis.
