MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) – Riley County police confirm that divers have recovered a piece of evidence from a Manhattan pond near the spot where a 14-year-old boy was found dead last week.
A classmate of Manhattan High School freshman Tyler Dowling remains in custody on charges of murder and aggravated robbery.
Police Lt. Richard Fink confirmed to The Manhattan Mercury on Tuesday that divers brought in from Douglas County recovered a piece of evidence the previous day from about 15 feet of water. He refused to describe the item.
Tyler was found dead April 13 in a field near the pond. While divers were searching it Monday, several hundred people filled a Manhattan church for Tyler’s funeral.
Speakers remembered him as a promising athlete in basketball, football and track, but they also spoke of his talent for writing poetry.
