TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Activists say they are planning a rally in June in Leavenworth in support of an Army private who’s accused of leaking classified documents in the WikiLeaks scandal.
Organizers posted online Thursday that they were planning a rally on June 4 in support of Pfc. Bradley Manning, who was moved to Fort Leavenworth on Wednesday from a Marine brig in Virginia.
Manning is suspected of having obtained the classified documents while serving as an Army intelligence analyst in Iraq. He is awaiting a determination by the Army on whether he’s mentally competent to stand trial.
A Facebook page says organizers are hoping to bring thousands of supporters to Kansas from across the country.
Manning is being held at the Joint Regional Correctional Facility at Fort Leavenworth.
