SALINA, Kan. (AP) – Educators from several Kansas high schools are home from a Marine Corps workshop in California with what some say is a new outlook on the military.

The week-long visit to Camp Pendleton and the Miramar Air Station gave educators a chance to talk with young recruits and watch their training. Army veteran Josh Massey is a social studies teacher at Salina South High School. Massey says he’s long been a “cheerleader” for the military as a career choice. But he told The Salina Journal he was impressed with the classes he saw, including ethics and history.

Salina South teacher Geoff Andrews previously considered the military a career option only for students not going to college.

Now, he says, he can at least talk about the Marines as a possibility.
