Flags across Kansas lowered for legislator

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) – Gov. Sam Brownback orders that flags across Kansas be flown at half-staff in honor of Rep. Rocky Fund, who died April 28 after a battle with cancer.

Brownback issued the order to apply from sunrise to sunset Monday. Fund, a Republican from Holton, was buried May 2.

The governor says he chose not to honor Fund on the day of his funeral because it coincided with the announcement that U.S. forces had killed Osama bin Laden. Brownback says he wanted to avoid any confusion.

Brownback praised Fund for his service in the U.S. Air Force and to residents in his northeast Kansas House district.
