UPDATED: Looks Like A Severe Weather Wednesday

Information From National Weather Service Office in Wichita

Update as of 11:10am Wednesday 5/11/11

A dryline over Western Kansas will be the focus for severe thunderstorms later this afternoon and evening.

The storms could affect areas generally along the west of a Russell to Kingman to Anthony line. The threats from these storms will be damaging winds….hail to 2 inches in diameter… and possibly a tornado.

Storm motion will be northeast at 35 mph. The chance of thunderstorms and severe weather will diminish late tonight.

Other scattered thunderstorms are possible along and east of the turnpike this afternoon. Some of these storms could strong to locally severe with hail and gusty winds.

Synopsis: An upper level trough over the southwest will lift northeast over the central high plains today. This trough will help develop a dryline across central Kansas late this afternoon. Southeast winds east of the dryline will keep a moist, unstable air mass in place which will help in thunderstorm development.

Timing: Widely scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible through the morning hours with better chances along a dryline after 3 PM CDT across portions of central and south central Kansas.

Type: Supercell thunderstorms with Very Large Hail, Damaging Winds and Tornadoes.
