Salina Speedway Week 4 Preview : Smoky Hill River Festival Night

By Dusty Wiegert

SALINA, Kan. — After a Friday off due to a huge event in the area last week, the weekend warriors of the Salina Speedway are ready to do battle once again this Friday night June 10.

It’s Smoky Hill River Festival night at the Speedway. Anyone wearing their button from the festival will be admitted to the grandstands at HALF PRICE!

One other small change is the starting time for this week’s events. Everything has been pushed back half an hour, with Grandstands opening at 5:30PM and racing now starting at 8:00PM.

The featured division once again this week will be the Belleville Motorsports Modifieds in which a wild race finished with a new winner, Corey Lagroon, in week 3. Not only did Lagroon work his way up from a last place restart position to win but he also closed the gap and has drawn even with Danny Morrison Jr. in the Championship points standings. Larry Sutton, Mike Petersilie, and Jeff Welsh are still within striking distance inside the top 5.

Bob Arnold proved that starting up front isn’t always a bad thing by taking the feature win in the Coors Light Stock Car division. Arnold had a rough night in week 1 but made up for it in week 3 as the Stock Cars were off in week 2. They will have another off week this week and resume their schedule on June 17.Scot Granzella and Brian Ryff are now tied at the top of the standings with Arnold and Dustin Newlin in the top 5.

Tyler Sutton drove to the front and picked up the feature win on week 3 in the Xtreme Motorsports B-Modified division. He also holds down a 10 point lead in the standings over week 1 winner Shane Meeks, with a 3 way tie for 3rd only 14 points back between Seth Schroer, Josh Rice, and rookie Jesse Levin.

A Kinderknecht has picked up the feature win in the Auto House Mod Lites for 2 weeks in a row. In week 2 Justin Kinderknecht took the win while in week 3 it was his father Earl Kinderknecht with the win. Week 1 winner, and car owner to the Kinderknechts, Tyler Bradshaw holds down a slim 6 point lead in the standings over Dustin Forsberg, Justin Kinderknecht, rookie BJ Dauer, and Nick Watts.

Wayne Juenneman returned to the Speedway after placing second on week 2 to dominate and win the Accurate Electric Front Wheel Compact division. Brandon Lobdell, week 1 winner, holds down the top spot in the standings ahead of Cody Johnson, Branston Arnder, Kevin Hackett, and Justin Betzner

The Blind Pig Sports Lounge Hobby Stocks will also return this week. Mike Traskowsky has picked up 2 wins in a row in the division so far in the 2011 season. He’s joined by Shannon Johnson, Dennis Berry, Mark Normandin, and Casey Gilmore in the top 5 of the point standings.
