TOPEKA, Kansas (AP) — A sixth 1st Infantry Division soldier has died as a result of an attack June 6 on his unit in Iraq. The death makes the attack the deadliest single attack on a Fort Riley unit since the Iraq war began.
The Department of Defense announced Saturday that 32-year-old Spc. Marcos A. Cintron, of Orlando, Fla., died Thursday in a hospital in Boston of his wounds.
Cintron and the five soldiers were attacked by insurgents using indirect fire in Baghdad.
The soldiers were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team.
