Kansas Abortion Clinic Inspected Wednesday Under New State Law

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas (AP) – Kansas is inspecting a Planned Parenthood clinic in the Kansas City suburbs.

The state inspection began Wednesday and comes ahead of decisions by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment on whether the state’s three abortion clinics will be allowed to operate after June 30. All three are in the Kansas City area.

A law enacted this year mandated new health and safety standards for abortion providers. The health department drafted regulations within weeks.

Three health department inspectors arrived Wednesday morning at Planned Parenthood’s clinic for what the clinic says will be a two-day review. They entered the building without speaking to reporters.

Abortion providers say imposing the regulations so quickly is unfair. The department says it had no choice under the new law.
