ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) – Arkansas City police are investigating the death of a 68-year-old woman and have taken her 61-year-old husband into custody.

Police spokesman Capt. Tom Scott says the department received a call shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday from a man who said his wife had life-threatening injuries. Officers found the woman dead and the husband with injuries to his face when they arrived at the home.

The Winfield Daily Courier reports the husband was treated for his injuries and then booked into the Cowley County jail on a charge of second-degree murder. He was being held on $500,000 bond.

Officials declined to identify the victim or her husband Sunday night, but those names were expected to be released at a news conference Monday morning.
