TOPEKA, Kansas (AP) — A federal court document shows Kansas already has diverted some family planning dollars from Planned Parenthood.
Attorneys for the state said Tuesday that $204,000 in federal funds that in previous years went to Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri to finance non-abortion services have been committed instead to the Sedgwick County Health Department.
The attorneys made the disclosure in a filing in U.S. District Court in which they seek to delay a hearing in a Planned Parenthood lawsuit over the family planning dollars.
Planned Parenthood is challenging a provision in the state budget that prevents it from receiving the dollars, which are federal funds.
The attorneys said the decision to give the money to Sedgwick County was made Thursday – three days after Planned Parenthood filed its lawsuit.
