TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) – Kansas House Speaker Mike O’Neal says he’s researching possible changes in state criminal laws after last week’s acquittal of Casey Anthony.
The Hutchinson Republican says he and his staff are looking into Kansas laws that cover reporting the disappearance or death of a child to authorities. He says he wants to make sure prompt reporting is required.
The review is prompted by last week’s acquittal of Casey Anthony following a criminal trial in Florida in connection with the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. The mother did not report that her daughter was missing for more than a month.
