Kansas Lottery Sales Down 1.3 Percent From Last Year

TOPEKA, Kansas (AP) — The Kansas Lottery says it transferred $70 million in revenue to the state’s general fund in the latest fiscal year.

Lottery officials also reported Wednesday that sales from traditional games totaled slightly more than $232.4 million in the fiscal year that ended June 30. That was down about 1.3 percent from the previous year.

The revenues are transferred to the state general fund by law for economic development and other programs.

Meanwhile, Lottery executive director Dennis Wilson said state-owned casino operations generated $34 million in revenue.

Those funds are dedicated to retiring state debt, improving infrastructure and reducing property taxes.

Kansas has one casino in operation, located in Dodge City.

Others are being built in Sumner County and in Wyandotte County, near Kansas Speedway. They’re expected to open in 2012.
