(AP) – Dozens of law enforcement officers are investigating a large marijuana growing operation discovered in southeastern Kansas.
Greenwood County Sheriff Rusty Bitler told KWCH-TV that a tip led authorities to the site near the town of Beaumont on Tuesday morning. The Kansas Highway Patrol sent up a helicopter that helped spot pockets of plants from the air.
Bitler says officers have found cultivated marijuana on several properties along U.S. 400. No arrests have been made, and authorities aren’t sure who owns the properties.
Several sheriffs’ departments were at the scene, along with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and federal agents.
Beaumont is located about 45 miles east of Wichita
