Kayaker’s Body Pulled From Kansas River

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) – Authorities have identified a 36-year-old Lawrence man who drowned while kayaking the Kansas River in Topeka.

City spokesman David Bevens tells The Topeka Capital-Journal and WIBW-TV that Topeka police identified Ryan L. Moore from the license plate on his truck that was parked near a boat ramp in the Oakland neighborhood.

Moore’s body was found Friday afternoon in the water about 300 yards downstream from a small overflow dam near the city’s water treatment plant.

Bevens says plant employees saw a person kayaking near the intake to the water plant, and later saw the kayak tumbling in the water.

He says the incident is a “tragedy” and authorities don’t yet have all the facts.
