Family Marks Birthday Of Young Kansas Murder Victim

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) — The family of a Hutchinson woman who was killed in her home will note her 28th birthday with vows to continue looking for her killer.

Jennifer Heckel would have turned 28 on Monday. She was found shot to death June 14 at her Hutchinson home. Her 5-year-old son was at the home but her husband was out of town. Police have been unable to find a suspect or motive for the shooting.

The Hutchinson News reports that Heckel’s family has announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who killed her. That will be added to $6,000 already offered by the state and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

Heckel’s aunt, Sonya Weekley, says the family is determined to find the person responsible.
