Vandals Set Fire To 8 Church Buses In Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Police are looking for vandals who set fires on buses used to bring people to a Wichita church.

Fire officials say vandals set fire to trash cans on eight buses Thursday at the First Pentecostal Church.

Eddy Dow, a bus mechanic for the south Wichita church, said four of buses are total losses. The other four had minor damage.

The Wichita Eagle reports that the buses bring more than 700 people — many from poverty-stricken families — to the church each Sunday.

Wichita fire officials say crews found two of the eight buses were fully engulfed in flames when they arrived at the church.

Damages are estimated at $31,000. The church carries only liability insurance on its buses.
