SALINA, Kan. — As the heat continues to bake the Salina area the racing has become better every week as the summer goes along with some pleasant surprises along the way. This week is no exception as a special group of racers invades the Salina Speedway for another night of racing on Friday July 29.
Double Features will once again be the headliner as the Coors Light Stock Car division is back in action. The first event of the night will be the $600 to win make-up feature from July 15. Drivers will once again have the option to buy into the race if they weren’t originally at the track on July 15 but will start at the back of the pack. The cars buying in must be legal Stock Cars. This is important due to the “invasion” later in the program.
After Hutchinson Raceway Park closed last week many racers found themselves without a place to race on Friday night. Salina Speedway has decided to allow the HRP Street Stock division to join the Coors Light Stock Cars for their regularly scheduled show on Friday. Many drivers have expressed interest in this event, designed as a show of kindness to the drivers who no longer have a place to race. All of the HRP Street Stocks will run their rules from their track while the Coors Light Stock Cars will abide by their rules. The Speedway is also waiving any registration fee for any Street Stock or Bomber in the point standings from HRP.
After the dust settles from the invasion four other classes will be in the mix as the regular season points Championship continues.
Ogden’s Robert Shepard picked up a double win in last week’s Belleville Motorsports Modified division double features. Though he picked up the first feature win easily he had to work hard to take the win in the nightcap after a lackluster season thus far. Danny Morrison Jr. finished fifth and holds a commanding thirty-five point lead over Kurt Johnston, Mike Petersilie, Corey Lagroon, and Chris Vogan.
The Xtreme Motorsports B-Modifieds featured rookie Jesse Levin back in Victory Lane once again last week. Josh Rice holds a ten point lead over Levin with Tyler Sutton, Seth Schroer, and Tim McBurney in the top five.
For the second week in a row Justin Kinderknecht found himself in Victory Lane in the Auto House Mod Lites. Kinderknecht now holds the division points lead by five over Dustin Forsberg, Brian Davidson, and Chris Unruh. Tyler Bradshaw fell from the points lead to fifth after missing last week while getting married.
Minneapolis’ Kevin Hackett scored his third victory in a row in the Accurate Electric Front Wheel Compact division last week and now holds a fifteen point lead on Wayne Juenemann in the standings. Brandon Lobdell, Justin Betzner, and Randy Rice hold the top five positions.
