In light of a stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair that killed seven people this month, Kansas State Fair officials and law enforcement authorities plan to meet this week to discuss safety at the upcoming fair.
Fair general manager Denny Stoecklein says representatives from the Kansas Highway Patrol and Reno County Emergency Management will meet with fair officials to discuss responses to any bad weatherduring the fair.
A severe wind tore down the stage Aug. 13 at the Indiana StateFair, where officials decided to continue with a concert despite being warned of the approaching storm.
The Wichita Eagle reports that Stoecklein has already talked to the contractor who erects theconcert stage and he’s confident the stage will be safe.
The Kansas State Fair runs Sept. 9-18.
