The competency hearing for a Kansas man who is charged with making threats that closed part of Interstate 70 has been delayed.

The Junction City Daily Union reports that a hearing scheduled Thursday for Christopher Spence was delayed until Sept. 9 because a competency report was not ready.
Prosecutors say that on July 25 Spence told Geary County dispatchers that he left hazardous materials at the Ramada Inn in Junction City. Officers who arrested Spence said he had anti-government statements on his truck.

A 25-mile stretch of Interstate 70 west of Topeka was closed for more than nine hours as officers investigated.

Geary County Attorney Steve Opat said that he expects the competency report on Spence to be done in a week to 10 days.
