Newly Formed Kansas Group Plans Rally Against Brownback

A newly formed organization is planning a rally in September to protest what members say are drastic policy decisions by first-term Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback.

Kansans United in Voice and Spirit organizers say the rally will be Sept. 16 at the Statehouse in Topeka. They say it is a result of recent actions by the Republican administration to close social service offices, end funding for the arts and place greater restrictions on women’s health care rights.

Supporters say there is growing frustration among Democrats and moderate Republicans that Brownback isn’t listening to the concerns of average Kansans. While many say they aren’t surprised by the policies, they question the motives.

Brownback’s office says the governor is focused on the economy.
