Morris County authorities say a family dispute left one woman dead and another in critical condition in a small northeast Kansas town.

County Attorney Laura Allen said the deceased woman, 57-year-old Elaine Louise Eldred, apparently shot herself to death after shooting her daughter-in-law, 47-year-old Ida Jane Cole. Cole suffered critical injuries.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports the shooting happened Tuesday afternoon near Dunlap, about nine miles southeast of Council Grove.

Allen said deputies found Eldred dead at the scene from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Further details about the feud that led to the shooting were not available.
