Salina Man Facing Several Charges After Fleeing Police

Matthew Smith

A brief police chase early Wednesday morning lands a 25-year-old Salina man in jail on several charges.

About 2:20 am, an officer tried to pull over a car in the 400 block of S. 10th, driven by Matthew Smith of 412 Washington for erratic driving.

Smith sped up and there was a chase of about 1 minute that reached speeds of 45 mph, before Smith drove his car into a yard at 308 Washington striking a large concrete block and brushing past a tree.

Smith got out and started running, before officers were able to stop him with a taser.

Smith was arrested on requested charges of felony fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, driving while suspended, DUI, and obstruction.
