Because of a 5th Monday in August and Labor Day, the Salina City Commission had their first regular meeting in three weeks Monday afternoon.
Commissioners approved on second reading a zoning change that would allow the expansion of a self storage business near Lakewood Middle School.
One first reading the commission give approval to a preliminary development plan and change in zoning to create a campus for a USD 305 Operations Center in the area of Cloud and Broadway.
Commissioners also gave the go ahead to the Salina Fire Department’s plane for a purchase of a new fire engine and also the purchase of a reserve fire engine from the city of Leawood Kansas for $20,000. The fire department will also donate a older reserve fire engine to Crisis City training center southwest of Salina.
And on a 1st and 2nd reading the commission approved amendments to the Special Event Retailer’s Permit, that would allow cereal malt beverage (beer) for three consecutive days excluding Sunday. The city will also now charge a $25 fee for the permit that would match the current $25 charged by the state, bringing the total cost for a Special Events Permit to $50.
