Kansas Man Arrested For Stealing $600 From Man That Died In Traffic Accident

A southwest Kansas man is jailed after he allegedly stole $600 from a man who was dying after a traffic accident.

Ford County Sheriff Dean Bush says the theft occurred after 59-year-old James Cox of Plains was killed in a two-vehicle accident Sunday near Bucklin. Cox was carrying a large sum of money and some of it was thrown around the highway.

Bush says a 62-year-old David Bilbrey of Mullinville picked up six $100 bills and left the scene. He was arrested a short time later in Kiowa County. Bilbrey was not involved in the accident.

The Liberal Leader & Times reports  that Bilbrey was charged Monday with two misdemeanors — obstruction of legal process and theft.
