Kansas Doctor Faces More Questions On Abortion Exams

A Kansas doctor faces more questions about the mental health exams she did before referring patients to the late Dr. George Tiller’s clinic for late-term abortions.

Attorneys hoped Friday would be the last day of a disciplinary hearing for Dr. Ann Kristin Neuhaus (NOO’-hows). She testified Thursday in her own defense and was expected to return to the witness stand Friday to be questioned by an attorney for the State Board of Healing Arts.

A complaint before the board accuses Neuhaus of negligence in examining the mental health of 11 patients aged 10 to 18 who later had abortions at Tiller’s clinic in Wichita. She gave second opinions required by law allowing the procedures to go forward.

Neuhaus already has testified that her opinions were truly independent.
