The state of Kansas is reforming numerous rules for applicants and recipients of several welfare programs, in what officials describe as a move to reduce expenses and fraud and encourage people to find work.
The Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services announced the changes Friday afternoon for three programs — Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Child Care Assistance. They take effect Oct. 1.
Among other things, people applying for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families will have to enroll in what the agency calls a directed job search. Recipients in that program will have to prove that all children in a family are enrolled in school.
Also, the incomes of unmarried boyfriends or girlfriends will be included as part of a
