Members of the Memorial Health System Employer of Choice Council presented a check to the Dickinson County Food 4 Kids program for $1,552.50. The program feeds children in need in Dickinson County by sending them home from school with food for the weekend. The donation will feed about 12 children in Dickinson County for a year. In addition, employees have pledged to donate $3,400 throughout the next year, which will feed another 27 children.

MHS staff members make contributions through payroll deduction and cash donations. Employees chose to support this program as their community service project in the interest of helping local children and prioritizing children’s health.

Dickinson County Food 4 Kids has been self-sustained through donations since 2008. It costs $125 to feed one child for a year. According to Julie Beswick, Food 4 Kids Coordinator, it is the hope of Food 4 Kids to create an endowed fund. “The community has really stepped up and we feel very fortunate,” she said.

For details about the program, contact Julie Beswick at (785) 263-3477. To donate, contact Kristine Meyer, President of the Community Foundation of Dickinson County, at (785) 263-1863.
