Rain Helps Topsoil Moisture Levels In Kansas

Drenching rains across most of Kansas last week have “improved considerably” topsoil moisture conditions.

The Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service reported Monday this is the first week since the end of June topsoil moisture has been rated as greater than 50% adequate.

That has helped give the emerging Kansas winter wheat crop a good soaking with 94% of the wheat now up. The agency rated 6% of the crop as excellent and 40% as good. An additional 42% was in fair condition and 12% was in poor to very poor condition.

Just 2% of the corn and 4% of the soybeans remain to be harvested in Kansas.

The sorghum harvest is 89% complete.
