OPINION: Carbon Storage Systems

By Mary Powell

I find it very curious that 11.5 million dollars is apparently going to fund a program that injects carbon dioxide into the ground.  This is nuts and anyone who understands a bit about plants and animals could figure out that carbon storage can be cheap and easy to do.

Global Warming theorists are pulling the wool over people’s eyes again.  11.5 million dollars to go to injecting carbon dioxide (CO2) into the ground?  Come on people think about this a bit.  When we breathe, we exhale CO2 and inhale oxygen.  Plants take up the CO2 and let off Oxygen.  The plant stores the carbon in its structure.  Trees keep the majority of carbon above ground where most of the tree is seen.  In grasses, the carbon storage is mainly underground where the root system stores the majority of carbon.  The plants also put the carbon into the soil.  This is basically the same thing as the plan to inject carbon dioxide into the ground, only it is much cheaper for plants to do than to mechanically.  Solution?  Maybe we should plant more grasses; that would put carbon underground.  It doesn’t matter what man does, carbon will still get into the air when we breathe.

What we have to remember is, carbon dioxide has to be in the air so plants can utilize it to produce oxygen.  Does anyone remember the rules in chemistry?  Does anyone understand the symbiotic relationship man has with plants; Carbon dioxide out, oxygen in for animals and oxygen out and carbon dioxide in for plants?  Carbon is everywhere, it is naturally on earth.  Where it is depends upon various things such as volcanoes, people breathing, decomposition, and such, it is part of the CARBON CYCLE and like it says, it is a cycle and like many cycles, it is a continuous thing and the carbon will all end up underground again but not all at the same time.  If that were to happen, we would not survive.

Oh the tangled mess the global warming theorists are trying to weave!  Maybe they should stop exhaling and help keep carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.
