Kansas Therapist Who Stalked Soldier Seeks Leniency

A therapist who stalked a soldier she was treating for post-traumatic stress has pleaded for leniency as she awaits her punishment for a high-speed chase that breached the gates at the Fort Riley military installation.

The attorney for 44-year-old Rachelle Santiago asked a federal judge to sentence the Manhattan woman on Monday to the three years of probation that prosecutors are recommending. She pleaded guilty in September to criminal restraint, fleeing and eluding a police officer, criminal threat and illegally entering military property.

Santiago has admitted sexual advances toward a soldier who was her patient and threatening him. The case culminated in a high-speed chase after she breached the gates at Fort Riley.

Psychiatrists contend she was mentally ill and suffering an acute psychotic episode at the time.
