A Topeka man serving time for wounding a deputy and holding an elderly woman hostage in northeastern Kansas will find it harder to defend himself in an upcoming murder trial.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that 44-year-old Stephen Alan Macomber lost has been barred from the law library at the Shawnee County Jail after being accused of stabbing another inmate with a pen.
No charges have been filed in the stabbing. But it was discussed during a hearing Wednesday in Shawnee County District Court. Macomber faces a March trial in Shawnee County in the killing of Ryan Lofton.
Macomber was sentenced earlier this year in Marshall County to 83 years in prison for wounding a sheriff’s deputy and holding a 75-year-old woman hostage. Macomber had been convicted of 10 felony counts in two separate trials.
