A 32-year-old Salina man was injured Monday afternoon, when the midget race car he was driving crashed on a county road just west of Salina.

Christopher Tucker was driving a midget race car with a 1000cc Yamaha engine east on W. Armstrong Road near the intersection of Armstrong and Halstead just before 2pm , when he lost control of the car, it went into a ditch and may have flipped in the air before coming to rest on the road. The car is not street legal.

Tucker was taken to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of head injuries. The race car is owned by Karmon Kindall, who had owned the car for just about a week.

The Saline County Sheriffs Office says the car was traveling at a high rate of speed. Tucker was cited for unsafe speed, no proof of insurance and no vehicle registration.

Further citations could be issued after a review by the Saline County Attorneys Office.
