Two Suffer Minor Injuries In Early Morning Fire

At 1:46 a.m. this morning, Salina Fire Department units were dispatched to 503 N. 13th Street for a residential structure fire.

Crews made an interior attack on the fire, but were somewhat challenged by the amount of personal belongings inside the home, according to a news released from the fire department.

The two residents were able to make their way out of the home, but were transported to Salina Regional Health Center E.R. by EMS for smoke inhalation and minor burn injuries. Additionally, one Salina firefighter was transported to Salina Regional Health Center E.R. by EMS for evaluation. The firefighter was subsequently released from the emergency room early this morning.

Fire investigators conducted an origin and cause investigation but an exact cause has yet to be determined. It was noted that the home had been without natural gas services since 2008, and the homeowner had been using space heaters and a multitude of extensions cords throughout the home.
