City Commission Approves Contract for Private Management of Bicentennial Center

BiCenterAfter no meeting last week due to the President’s Day holiday, the Salina City Commission had a lengthy meeting Monday afternoon. The commission approved a 5 year agreement between the city and Global Spectrum of Philadelphia, for private management of the Salina Bicentennial Center beginning March 1st.

City Commissioners also denied a request to vacate a portion of an alley behind the Central Kansas Foundation at Ohio and Cloud until the new Dillons Store is open, to determine the traffic pattern of the area. Central Kansas Foundation which owns property on both sides of the 25ft wide paved alley, is concerned about foot traffic going between two buildings and increased vehicle traffic in the alley using it as a short cut could pose a hazard for those walking across the alley especially young children,

Commissioners also denied a request by the city engineering department to extend a median at the intersection of S. Ohio at Prescott. Business Owners in the area were concerned that the extension of the median would cause access issues for their businesses.

Commissioners also approved, on second reading, amending city code that prohibits body piercing and tattoo parlors as home occupations.
