Santorum Wins Big in Kansas and Saline County Caucus

Nearly 700 Republicans participated in Saline County Caucus Saturday Morning

Rick Santorum has overwhelmingly won the Kansas Republican presidential caucuses.

Not only did Santorum carry Kansas, he was the runaway winner at the Caucus Saturday morning at Salina Central High School. 695 registered Republican voters participated in the Caucus, up from 426 in Salina back in 2008.

The results from Saline County are as follows

Rick Santorum 51.5% 358 votes

Mitt Romney 20.7% 147 votes

Newt Gingrich 15.6% 110 votes

Ron Paul 10.1% 72 votes

There were 12 invalid ballots due to voting for more than one candidate or not having the proper identification sticker on the ballot.

There were 13 provisional ballots cast, that will be sent to GOP headquarters in Topeka, where they may or may not be counted.

Other ballots cast were 1 vote each for Herman Cain and Michelle Bachman. Two ballots cast each for Rick Perry, Jon Huntsman, and uncommitted.

1st District Kansas Congressman Tim Huelskamp spoke at the beginning of the caucus Saturday morning. He said that President Obama has made the 2012 election the election of our lifetime, and his policies and performance has distinguished differences between Democrats and Republicans.

Huelskamp also got a favorable response from those in attendance by saying that the American Dream , not the Spanish dream, English dream or French dream, but the American Dream is still alive.

GOP front-runner Mitt Romney did not campaign in Kansas. Rival Newt Gingrich cancelled a scheduled trip to the state late last week to concentrate on Tuesday’s upcoming primaries in Alabama and Mississippi.
