A 47-year-old man is in the hospital after being stabbed in the back early Sunday morning.

Police were called to the home of Timothy Martens in the 700 block of State around 4am, when Martens reported that a female acquaintance had stabbed him twice in the upper back with a kitchen knife.

The woman had left the home by the time police arrived, although she was interviewed later and the investigation is ongoing.

Martens was taken to Salina Regional Health Center and later admitted for treatment of the stab wounds.
