Salina Fire Department Recieves International Accreditation

Release From Salina Fire Department

In 2008, City Manager Jason Gage gave Fire Chief Mullikin the task of making the Salina Fire Department into the premier fire department in the State of Kansas with a fire basedEMSsystem. City Manager Jason Gage summarized this task by outlining the following developmental goals; clear ethical and cultural standards, a performance oriented environment, implementation capability and open multi-dimensional communication.

To achieve this goal, Fire Chief Mullikin contacted the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. The CFAI is an organization that is committed to assisting and improving fire and emergency services around the world in achieving organizational and professional excellence through its strategic self-assessment model and accreditation process to provide continuous quality improvement and enhancement of service delivery to the community and the world at large.

The Salina Fire Department began the accreditation process in September of 2009. This arduous process required a tremendous amount of time and effort and could not have been possible without the countless contributions of a dedicated and passionate team. The intensive self evaluation process took over two years and many challenges were discovered and overcome.

The Salina Fire Department received its recognition for accreditation through the CFAI on March 6th, 2012 and is only the fourth department in the State ofKansas to receive this honor. The accreditation process has helped us develop into a premier organization by optimizing our strategies and actions. The citizens of our community will receive the most professional and competent services for fire and EMS emergencies possible through the best trained, equipped and purpose driven firefighters in the State ofKansas.
