A 47-year-old Smolan man was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for the charge of cruelty to animals.

Saline County Sheriff Captain Brian Shea said Richard O’Farrell is alleged to have shot a 30 to 40 pound Rottweiler pup three times, back on March 31st for attacking his children.

O’Farrell is then alleged to have dumped the body of the dog into the garbage.

Captain Shea said witnesses reported the dog did not attack the children.

The case was referred to the Saline County Attorney’s Office, who then issued the warrant.
