Residents living in the area south of Bishop Street, North of Republic Street, West of Santa Fe Avenue and inside the City limits are invited to place unwanted household items, e.g., furniture, metal or plastic items, tree limbs, lawn debris, and tires, at the curb in front of their residence by 8:00 a.m., Saturday, April 21, for free pickup by volunteers as part of Spring Spruce-Up Salina 2012.

Residents with need for special assistance to remove items should call The Volunteer Connection at 823-3128 by 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 20. Residents are also encouraged to join the teams of volunteers who will canvass the area to pick up the items between 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon, April 21.

Coordinated by The Volunteer Connection, Serving Salina Together and the City of Salina Community Development Department, with support from the Salina C.A.R.E. Partnership, the second annual Spring Spruce-Up represents the third collaborative effort to help renew a section of our community.

Volunteer check-in, team and area assignments will take place at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, at the Friendship Center,746 Commanche Street. Volunteers with pickups or low-bed trailers are also needed to accompany walkers through the neighborhoods and transport collected items to designated dumpster sites within the area. Activities will conclude with a 12:00 noon lunch at the Friendship Center.

Volunteers are asked to wear long pants, shirts, hats and boots or other closed-toed shoes and bring gloves. A suggested donation of $5.00 per adult volunteer is encouraged, but not required, to help defray event expenses such as food, t-shirts, supplies and fees.
