A portion of I-70 was down to one lane of eastbound traffic after a fatality accident at the I-70 rest area near Solomon.
The incident occurred just inside the Saline County line at the rest area just west of the Solomon Rd exit, around 1PM.
Troopers say the semi was eastbound when it pulled into the rest area at a high rate of speed and slammed into the back of the parked RV. The motor home was pushed into a grassy area, where bystanders pulled two people from the vehicle before it caught fire.
67-year-old Martin L. Bal of Pointblank, TX was killed. He was sleeping at the time of the crash.
The driver of the semi, 68-year-old John Boteler of Shelby, Indiana and an occupant of the motorhome, 72-year-old Joan Bal, were taken to Salina Regional Medical Center with injuries.
Interestate 70 was reduced to one Eastbound lane of traffic from Niles Road to Solomon Road just east of Salina around 1:40.
